List of lists! ETC 2011 Tyranid lists

A quick thanks to yermom over at The Brown Paintbrush who posted the initial links to the ETC forums for me to find this.  Note the ETC rules have a pretty heavy focus on objectives, and every list is built for taking/holding objectives.  I do find it interesting there isn't a single tyrannofex or fex-star in the list; in fact, only two lists even have a substantial Heavy Support component.  Only one tyrant to be found, and all but one have three full slots of shooty, most are HGs, in their elites.  A common theme is big 'stealer units and lots of catalyst-having tervigons - not a huge surprise there.  Will be fun to follow how the games play out.

    It almost looks like they are playing in the wargamescon mirror list event with nids instead of marines.

    List of Units not appearing: Harpies, Tyrannofexes, Carnifexes, Warriors, Mawloc, Lichtors, and rippers, (ignoring unique units). Did I miss any not showing up.

    Also missing venomthropes, pyrovores, shrikes, and the flying ripper variant; of those, pretty much only the venomthropes are generally considered being of tournament potential.

    11 lists total, only one without genestealers; 441 total stealers in the other 10 lists for an average per-list count of 44.1.

    4 lists with fast attack components, only one that looks to make speed a major component with 2 big garg units and raveners, rather than relying purely on infiltrating/outflanking stealers to get across the board.

    The Stealershock lists are a mirror of the Polish Nid list from last year that mauled its way through almost everything it fought, including Darkwynn's Guard.

    There was a 6 Nations ETC warm-up in Ireland a few months back (us, Norn Iron, England, Scotland, Wales and Mercs) and the top-scoring Nid list was our Stealershock which placed 3rd overall including two 20-nil's which helped to demonstrate its effectiveness in the ETC setting at least.

    We're not surprised to see a plethora of them in Montreux and they'll be an *avoid* list for many as they're brilliantly effective against meched-up armies.

    Hey Stormy - thanks for the background. I had read your blog entries earlier but didn't see any refs to nids =)

    Overall, Tyranids did pretty well in 6 Nations warmup, with 5 in the top 20 and 2 in the top 10. Three players from that top 20 are listed above:
    - Pádraic Ó Confhaola (3rd)
    - Filippo Cipriani (7th)
    - James Ramsay (19th)

    In what way are Genestealers brilliantly effective vs mech? Sure I've had some success when I get FNP off, but you still need your Hive Guards to pop the vehicles, otherwise the Stealers struggle when they are forced to cluster up and can't lock in combat.

    I never really understood how the Polish Nid list last year was so successful against IG.

    The only thing I can figure is just saturation and rear armor hits vs. mech that is focused on taking down other mech lists and not 45+ stealers.
